Grades – Grade Averages

Grade Averages

Success grade; It is determined by the semester academic grade point average (GPA) and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The weighted score of a course is obtained by multiplying the credit of the course and the coefficient of the grade received.

Semester Grade Point Average (GPA)

Semester academic grade point average (GPA); It is calculated by dividing the total weighted scores of the courses taken by the student in any semester by the total credits. In calculations, two digits are added after the decimal point and rounded. Minor and double major courses are not taken into account in the semester academic grade point average.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

It is calculated by dividing the total of weighted points calculated according to the student's final grades from all courses by the total credits of the courses. In calculations, two digits are added after the decimal point and rounded. Minor and double major courses are not taken into account in the academic grade point average.

Scores

For each course they take, students are assigned one of the following letter grades by the instructor as their final course grade. Letter grades, coefficients of letter grades and their equivalents out of 100 points are shown below:

Also, from the letter grades

  • EX grade: It is given to students who are accepted to undergraduate and associate degree programs, and to students who are exempted by being deemed successful as a result of the English proficiency exam administered by the Preparatory Class.
  • Grade I: The grade is given to students who cannot complete the required requirements for the course at the end of the semester or summer education for a valid reason accepted by the instructor teaching the course. The (I) grade must be converted to a letter grade within five days from the final date of semester or summer school grades. However, in special cases, this period can be extended until the start date of the next semester's registration at the latest and it must be converted to a letter grade at the end of this period. These procedures in special cases are carried out upon the recommendation of the head of the department where the course is given and by the decision of the board of directors of the unit to which that department is affiliated. An (I) grade that is not converted into a letter grade within the prescribed period automatically turns into a (FF) or (U) grade.
  • NA grade: Not being eligible to take the final exam because of not fulfilling course attendance obligations. Not being eligible to take the final exam because of not fulfilling the conditions regarding course applications.
  • P grade: Given to students who are continuing courses that are not included in their grade point averages.
  • S grade: Given to students who are exempt from courses or students who are successful in courses.
  • U grade: Given to students who fail courses.
  • W grade: Given to students who withdraw from a course.
